GWIHR, with funding from the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women (UNTF), proudly presents “Reclaiming Power: Voices from the Margins.” This brochure highlights the groundbreaking journey of the “Forefronting Our Agenda: Strengthening GBV Response for Sex Workers” project (2022–2025), which sought to strengthen gender-based violence (GBV) response systems for sex workers in Rivers States.
Through advocacy, dialogue, and partnership with traditional leaders, law enforcement agencies, ministries, and civil society, the project amplified the voices of women whose experiences are often silenced. It documents stories of courage, resilience, and transformation women reclaiming power and asserting their rights to safety, justice, and dignity. By establishing community reporting centers, fostering legal aid access, and shifting public attitudes, GWIHR continues to build an inclusive future where no woman is left behind.
The brochure tells the real stories of women who found their voices and reclaimed their dignity. From survivors of violence who became advocates for others, to allies within the justice system who are championing fair treatment each story is a testament to what can happen when inclusion replaces indifference.
Through community-based GBV response mechanisms, reporting centers within customary courts, and partnerships with legal aid institutions like the National Human Rights Commission, the project has created sustainable pathways for sex workers to seek justice and support without fear.
“Reclaiming Power: Voices from the Margins” stands as a testament to the strength of collective advocacy and the power of women rising from the edges to the center of change.
