In a monumental triumph for the rights of sex workers, Greater Women Initiative for Health and Right (GWIHR), in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), achieved a groundbreaking milestone: securing compensation and a heartfelt apology for a sex worker whose fundamental human rights were egregiously violated by a security personnel at a hotel.
In October 2023, paralegals from GWIHRs undertook a visit to a brothel in PHALGA as part of their responsibilities to provide legal services. While conducting their duties, they encountered a distressed young female sex worker who complained of severe itching, discharge, and a fowl smell both on her genitals and her body.
GWIHR unfolds a transformational journey of six months between January and July 2023 that would forever remain remarkable in the lives of two sex workers who are survivors of sexual violence.
