The organization is dedicated to fostering an environment where these diverse populations irrespective of their sexuality, gender identity, or expression, live a healthy, dignified life devoid of violence, exclusion, and discrimination. GWIHR’s expertise includes advocacy, awareness campaigns, capacity building, service delivery, policy advancements, legal reforms, empowerment programs, research, rigorous monitoring, and evaluation.
Project Overview
Within the framework of the Global Fund Global Cycle 7 (GC7) Community and Private-Public-Mix Expansion in TB and HIV Prevention, Diagnostic, and Treatment Services (N-THRIP) grant, the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), serving as a Sub-Recipient to the Principal Recipient—Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN)—is implementing key interventions across Nigeria. These include Treatment, Care, and Support in 4 States; the Gender and Human Rights and Community PMTCT components in 36+1 States; and Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) in 13 States.
The GC7 approach emphasizes people-centered services, where clients are recognized as equal partners and are supported through integrated, client-centric differentiated service delivery (DSD) models. It also promotes strong community engagement and sustainable transformation through strategic partnerships with the Government of Nigeria (GoN) and civil society/community-based organizations (CSOs/CBOs). These partnerships drive ownership of services that are accountable, evidence-based, and continuously improved through quality enhancement strategies.
Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) play a crucial role in delivering interventions at the grassroots level, leveraging their deep understanding of local contexts and networks. However, the effectiveness of these interventions relies heavily on the engagement of credible and capable personnel. This ensures smooth coordination from the grassroots to national levels and strengthens community-focused monitoring and response efforts aligned with the country’s integrated community-led monitoring strategies.
To this end, NEPWHAN, in collaboration with CBOs such as the GWIHR, is committed to engaging qualified community-level personnel. These engagements aim to enhance the generation and utilization of CLM data, promote representation and inclusion of key populations, and empower community members and support groups. This collective effort is expected to drive a more inclusive, responsive, and impactful HIV/AIDS response across Nigeria—ultimately improving health outcomes and the overall well-being of communities nationwide.
