On a powerful and transformative day, advocates, partners, and community leaders from across Abia State came together to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Under the theme:
“Recommitment, Accountability, Resourcing – Towards Beijing +30: Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls,”
this event highlighted the urgent need to address the pervasive violence that threatens the rights and dignity of women and girls in our communities.
Thanks to the generous support of the French Embassy in Nigeria, the event served as a rallying point for policymakers, stakeholders, and grassroots organizations to confront the systemic issues fueling gender-based violence and to develop actionable solutions.
Experts and representatives from the Abia State Ministry of Health, Abia State Ministry of Justice, Abia State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, National Human Rights Commission, Legal Aid, FIDA, and Broadcasting Corporation of Abia (BCA) shared insights on strategies to combat gender-based violence. The discussion explored how policy reforms, community engagement, and cross-sectoral collaboration can drive meaningful change.
