GWIHRs’ engagement with sex workers leader in different brothels to get perception/views on violence prevention approaches and how their special boyfriends can be used as allies to confront intimate partner violence (IPV).
During the sensitization meeting, GWIHR GBV focal person explained that the overwhelming majority of violence against sex workers is perpetrated by the client of sex workers, brothel owners, and law enforcement agents who are "men."
Thus engaging and sensitizing these men and special boyfriends in violence prevention strategies is critical in reducing IPV and other forms of violence because their use of violence is driven by gender inequality and reinforced by socially constructed and accepted versions of masculinity; hence, engaging the clients of sex workers as "allies and partners is essential in minimizing and responding to violence.
