International Adolescent Health Week

As we mark this year’s International Adolescent Health Week (IAHW 2023), Greater Women Initiative for Health and Right (GWIHR) recognize the marginalized population (sex workers, LGBTQI, and persons with disabilities) whose sexual and reproductive health and rights are neglected.
The theme for the year’s Internationational Adolescent Health Week 2023 (IAHW) is COUNTDOWN. With and For Adolescents: Building a Healthier and More Inclusive Future. GWIHR as a sex worker organization whose goal is to reduce mortality among sex workers as a result of sexual reproductive health-related infections, gender-based violence and poverty.
Over the years, GWIHR has worked tirelessly to ensure that sex workers and their diversity live to their prospects through empowerment, provision of friendly health services, clinical services, probono services, etc.
Nowadays, adolescents are more sexually active than adults and are crucial they access comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. Everyone is entitled to the full spectrum of sexual and reproductive health and rights irrespective of sex, gender, or choice of job.
Yet marginalized populations bear significant SRH inequities and unmet needs for appropriate SRH services at every time along their sexual and reproductive lives. As we commemorate this significant day, we implore the health service providers to combat barriers that limit their access to SRH services and offer friendly and inclusive health services.
Happy International Adolescent Health Week 2023.
